Skincare – A Quick Skin Texture Refresh

I have been out of the country for a big part of the month. And I find that I sometimes don’t keep up with my skincare regimen as much as I should when I’m away.

After two weeks of being away, I started to get little breakouts around the top of my forehead and cheeks. Nothing too bad, but it stands out to me because outside of small hormonal breakouts (along my jawline) during my period, I don’t ever get pimples. So I knew that these breakouts were due to my slacking off.

Thankfully, I brought along some of my favorite skincare. When I want to address some texture issues, I love to use a mix of gentle physical and chemical exfoliators. On this trip, I packed my Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant and my Aveeno Clear Complexion Purely Matte peel-off mask.

Both have ingredients to combat excess oil and the Aveeno mask contains AHAs which are great chemical exfoliants. The mask also contains pomegranate which is rich in vitamin C, an important nutrient for skin health. Pomegranates are also full of antioxidants like proanthocyanidins and flavonoids that work great for the skin by delaying the signs of aging like wrinkles. The antioxidants in pomegranate seeds/powder also combat acne breakouts and the inflammation that sometimes comes along with breakouts.

Step 1 // Cleansing

I start off with my favorite gentle cleanser from La Roche-Posay first. I use this when I don’t need anything too heavy-duty; like in the mornings or when I am washing my face at night when I haven’t worn makeup that day. I usually pick up mine at Ulta

Step 2 // Physical Exfoliant

I go in with the Dermalogica exfoliant. It comes out as a powder that you need to rub together in your hands with a bit of water. I apply this everywhere but I avoid my brows (microbladed) and under-eye area.

Step 3 // Exfoliating Mask

Time for the mask! I apply the mask in two layers. The instructions tell you to apply a thin layer… But from experience, if the layer is too thin, it is IMPOSSIBLE to peel off. So I apply a thin layer then apply another layer on top of that. This makes the peeling off process so much easier.

Step 4 // The Great Reveal

Wait until the mask dries down and is compeletely clear. When it’s all clear… The fun begins!! Peel it all off.

After I peel it off, my skin is so soft and I can see a visible difference in the size of my pores and my texture has reduced.
